Keep watch over Affiliates

You should keep track of affiliates. They sometimes do strange things and it is just human nature. In some cases they get a bit greedy or excited. I’ve had situations where an affiliate starts cyber-squatting on my domain names. Such things as my personal name. For instance they sign-up a Skype account with my personal name, God knows why they do such things but some people are a little bit ridiculous. So you should set Google alerts for your own name and keep track of what’s going on with the affiliates. Set Google alerts for your product or service brands.

My own staff understands much more about my affiliate’s website than my affiliates do. They’ve set Google alerts, they monitor what they’re promoting, how they are promoting it, and we make sure that we keep close track of it so they know they’re not doing anything wrong. There were FTC actions against companies where their affiliate marketers are making bogus promises or pretend to do reviews etc. so you should be careful and keep an eye on what your affiliate marketers are doing and ensure you provide for that inside your fine print.

I’ll be showing you and event where I almost got ripped off by an associate and I’m sharing this so that you can avoid the exact same thing from happening to you.

Affiliate Administrator?

One thing you may want to think about is an affiliate supervisor. If you’re not strong in sales or advertising or creating partnerships or sales writing or managing projects, then you probably want an affiliate manager.

An affiliate manager will typically take a fraction override on anybody he presents and all of the sales they make. It could be 3% or 5% or 10%. You shouldn’t pay an expense unless it’s a big launch. An affiliate manager needs to be linked to groups of affiliates, they should be capable to compose good email copy, they must be networkers, and they should be able to help broadcast new stuff released.
