I work at on the IT support team of a large corporation, and one day, my boss called a meeting for all the information technology consulting team members. My boss told us that the company was planning on doing some IT relocation, and they were interested to know if any of us were willing to do the IT relocation that was required.
As a member of the IT support team, I was more than capable to do the IT relocation that the company needed, so I volunteered to do the job. The boss was very appreciative that I had volunteered, and I started to work on the IT relocation as soon as I could.
This was different than the normal jobs I would do as an information technology consulting team member, but I found it nice to have a challenge. I still did a few of my regular jobs that I would to do in IT support, but for the most part, my time was filled with completeing the task of the relocation.
Once I finished the job, I told my boss, and he was so impressed with my work that he told me he was going to talk with his superiors about promoting me. I was so excited and proud that he had liked my work so much. Then that week, my boss told me that I was being promoted to head up my own information technology consulting team. Not only did I go up in title, but my pay went up as well. I guess it pays to volunteer.
I volunteered, so I got a promotion
