If I ever get another chance to work in the IT support industry, I’m going to take advantage of it. My current job pays very well, but one of my friends is making twice as much in a management position at a small business IT Support Company. We’ve both taken all the same classes, and the only difference between us is that he got a job at an outsourced IT company and I didn’t.
I’m not going to deny that I’m pretty jealous of his weekly wage. We both applied at different IT support firms after school, but he’s the one who got a job. I was offered a job at one firm, but I turned it down because the starting wage was so low. If I had the chance to do it over, my decision would be different. If I had been working at a small business IT support firm all these years, my wage would undoubtedly be much higher, and I might even be a manager. There is a fair amount of turnover in outsourced IT, but I’m not the kind of person to give up.
In the future, I’m keeping my eye open for an IT support job. I couldn’t really take an entry level position at this point, but with my current level of experience, I probably wouldn’t have to. There are outsourced IT companies all over my area, and most of them specialize in small business IT support. They need workers all the time, so if I keep my eyes peeled, I’ll probably find something soon.
