Scent marketing is one of the newest trends in advertising, and I decided that I needed to try it in our craft shop. The idea is that people come to associate certain smells with your business, and it makes them want to buy more from you. They show up more frequently, and they spend more money. That’s the way it’s supposed to work, and I’m skeptical but interested. There are many scent systems that can be purchased and placed strategically throughout your shop. Some of these scent machines are very small, and easily hidden.

I sent off for our scent machines yesterday, and the scent systems are supposed to arrive sometime next week. We’ve chosen several scents that should remind people of home, and we’ll be placing the systems all around the shop. I’ve already got several hiding places in mind, and I can’t wait to see if this scent marketing thing works as well as advertised.

If this works, I’ll probably add scent machines to my other businesses as well. These scent systems weren’t really all that expensive to buy, and they have a huge selection of different scents to choose from, so it will be easy to set up all of my shops with an appropriate scent scheme. Scent marketing has really become very sophisticated, and if it works, it’s going to change advertising forever.
