My best friend has his day skipper certification and we’re going sailing next week. He took the RYA courses and he’s been trying to get me to take some sailing courses. I’m thinking about it, but I’m not sure. It would be cool if we could both say that we were actual certified skippers. Anybody that sails with us would feel a lot more confident knowing that there were two people on board that could handle everything.

He said the sailing courses were a lot of fun, but I’m worried that I may not have time for them, at least not right now. RYA courses teach you all the basics of navigation, and basic seamanship. I’ve spent some time on a boat, so I could probably start with the day skipper course, and that would be awesome. I could actually start to immediately think of myself as a real sailor if I took that course, and I’ve heard they teach you all the basic things you need.

I’ll probably go ahead and take the RYA courses and become a certified day skipper. My friend is thinking about taking some of the more advanced sailing courses, and I’ll probably want to keep up with him, so I could end up taking them too. That’s how it is with me and my friend. We’re always competing with each other.
