You’ve heard all the popular Internet Marketing catch-phrases, such as “Content is king” or “Words equals money.” These, and many others, are absolutely true. However, all the great, original content in the world will not make you money without contextual advertising.

Google Adsense is the epitome of contextual advertising, because it determines the keywords on your page and serves ads based on those keywords (yes, this is an over-simplification). Unfortunately, you do not have control over the ads other than changing the keywords on your website and hoping Google gets it right.

What you do have control over is affiliate links and other forms of placement advertising. If the ads and underlying links don’t match what your page is about, then you are missing out on traffic and revenue.
